Noticed a half dozen ticks on this mink’s head. I was surprised they stayed on the mink in a drowning set. Is this a regular thing? Do you guys tweeze them off? I think I’ll try freezing hole and see if they fall off on their own. [Linked Image]

It's not surprising. They will burrow under the skin of some animals. Just pop em off.

Deep freeze it for two weeks it will kill them.
I seen ticks on a mink once about 45 years ago.Had them on its ears and eyelids.Never seen a mink with ticks since.
Ticks on rabbits are common here in June.
Caught a beaver 2 springs ago covered in ticks-first and only time I have ever seen ticks on a beaver in my lifetime.
Another trapper reported a beaver with ticks same spring from a totally different drainage.Like myself,he has been trapping for near 50 years and it was the first time he ever seen ticks on a beaver.

I just turned a coyote the other day and out fell three grape size ticks on the floor, actually pretty rare in my country. Where is grew up in northeast Nebraska it was a daily chore to rid the dogs of ticks.

Thanks for the tips. I just plucked them off with some tweezers. This mink must have been a tick magnet, I’ve never picked up a tick in the area I trapped it. I guess they spend a lot of time nosing around in the grass.

I seen that with rabbit ticks.
Freezing the beaver killed them all and there were hundreds all over the beaver,
I sent some of the dead ones off to be examined at the university and they were indeed a species specific beaver tick(Ixodes Banksii).

Hard to find a mink without ticks here, or a fox. Some have a lot. For some reason the coon don't seem to have them as much.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Yea I was so sick of ticks one year I thought freezing before skinning would kill them (mink)- the experiment was a failure. I dont think long term submergence kills them either.

Mink here most all will have ticks on them. Dead of winter, submerged in freezing water for a day you would think they would bail off but they don't. My mink go in a sealed plastic bag with a good shot of ether. Takes care of them.

I only catch a couple mink a season, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one without a tick on it. Usually I find them right on the back or head.
