What is the recommended rate to add methyl paraben to bait. I am using sodium benzoate as a preservative, but was planning to add mp to prevent mold forming at the top of my jarred up bait. Southern snares recommends six to eight oz. per gallon, but I am not sure if that is by weight or volume.

I use on half cup by volume per gallon and have had no problem with mold.

You don't need a lot of MP if using it in conjunction with Sodium Benzoate. 1-2 ounces of MP per gallon dissolved in warm tap water should do a good job. It is very strong material in my experience.

I prefer to mix and blend the SB and MP together first then dissolve prior to adding it to meat bases. Mix very thoroughly stirring well to ensure good contact with your base.More can be used but I haven't found it to be needed. If using it as a stand alone preservative and mold inhibitor that is a different story i would bump up the volume of use per gallon. as Paul suggested.
