I’ve never had a red make noise.

None I’ve ever caught make noise, except to bark at me but even that is pretty quiet.

Yes they do... I have heard them a number of times and they are somewhat louder than a Gray too... When I lived on a farm and caught one in a trap at about 10:00 PM It screamed for a while and then stopped. So I figured it was done, but about 30 minutes later, it was back at it. Then a neighbor that live about 1/2 mile away called and asked If I knew what it was. I got dressed and went to the field about 200 yards from the house and dispatched it.

Very quiet, do your work before sunrise. We have lots of reds here, and lots of people. Walking across a farm field next to a housing development after sunrise draws alot of attention from nosey neighbors.....

First- its a FOOT hold trap, not a LEG hold.
Second- I've never caught a GAY fox.....

I've had them vocalize exactly like shown in Hobbie's video but it's pretty rare. Just barking without the scream happens more often but even that is rare.

Eh...wot?

I think Lugnut would agree the fox is being vocal not because it is caught but because we are present.

Yes, I do agree with that. I would bet he was silent before you showed up.

The scream is probably their most frequent vocalization. It is common to hear it around home in the evening all throughout the year.

It freaks people out that don't know what it is.

Eh...wot?

If you use a 650 for a coon it could be a leg hold though 🤔

I would have to disagree with you on that. I have probably heard heard reds squalling at least a dozen times over the years that have been caught in a trap. I don't know of any time when it was calling when someone was around.
Several times when I was a game warden, I got a call from a farmer or someone that lived nearby, about some kind of animal in distress. When I went to check it out, they would be squalling until I got there and then they would shut-up.

If you did this, it would make you an idiot.
Edit- I'm sure you were not recommending this, and am sure (hope) you haven't done this.

I hear them hollering all night at my place where I have traps and are rarely caught.

I also have trail camera footage of a catches from 11:00pm to when I get to them in the morning and unless they are only hollering during the 30 second delay, there wasn’t a peep out of them. lol
