Is there a trick to getting rusted metal lids off glass bottles without breaking these things? Cavens seem to rust the worst and ed schneiders stick the worst. I have old lure from the 70s that have been stored in the same environment and the lids are solid without hardly any rust.

Tap them, hot water ran over the lids then try a pliers on the wider slot it’s easier to control the pressure that way.

Hot water under the tap. Then a pair of vice grips to open.

If hot water doesn't help, use a ratchet strap.

Flip bottle upside down and apply a little vegetable oil ( or BTO) to the rim of the lid and let sit overnight someplace warm

Rubber husband

Ever heard that term ?
Thin rubber pad about 6" in diameter , 1/8" thick , grippy surface. Usually given away as a promotion with advertising on it.

Put rubber pad on top of jar , grippy rubber increases your torque output.

Before putting bottles away for the year, clean, then coat the threads of the lids with Vaseline on Q-tip. Won't rust up.

Thanks for the tips. The 2 oz lures jars seem to be the worst. The cavens just stick then fall apart. Ill definitely use that vaseline trick once im done. I got them open, about gave me a hernia but some rubber dipped gloves did the trick!

I use channel lock pliers also. Just use enough grip to not allow the plier jaws not to slip off. Comes loose pretty easy.

I have a pair of "Crescent" needle nose that fit the lid perfectly these should be available and worth it to have a pair around.
