Interesting. Similar to T3/Fletchers Ice Island, which was an iceberg that circumnavigated the north pole for years, and was used as an air force base for many. I had a good friend who worked on it in the mid 70's..

Amazing story.
Drifting around in the arctic ocean for 38 years with no one aboard; that says something about the quality of vessel it was.

I think it drifted into the Atlantic in the late 70's and melted/flipped/etc.. There was a whole base on it. When my buddy (dead 5 years+) went there in the 70's, we has just out of school. Found the cab of an old grader and used explosives that were all over the place to blow the ice/snow away until it was clear, fired it up and had wheels around the berg for the duration of his stay. Funny thing is that there became a scientific need for an explosives specialist after that, and they subsequently sent him to school to become 'qualified'. He dumped many tons of TNT into the arctic ocean for years afterward...
