They come in all 8 colour grades here.
The colours dont show accurately in the pics of the skins.

They look great. I caught 2 Marten this past Nov. in NY’s Adirondack Mountains, my first Marten ever. Very cool animal, saw several more while deer hunting.

Do you have many fisher where you trap ? Where I live we are over run with fisher, I caught 9 this fall and 10 last fall. State biologists told me Marten don’t do well where there are high fisher populations ?

Squash-yes we have some fisher here,but they are not in high numbers like they are in south eastern Ontario.
Generally where there are more fisher there are less marten.From talking to oldtimers,they said-years ago-in the 1930's and 40's there were not many marten here,mostly fisher,then the balance changed to almost all marten and very few fisher in the 60's.In the last 10 years or so the fisher are slowly increasing,although so far there has not been a decline in marten because of it.

Bruce,yes at room temps you can turn a marten after a couple hours on the boards.I leave them overnight in a cold room,turn and finish them at room temp,then take them off and comb them,then hang back in the cold room.

Is sable fur thicker and softer than mink...? They look like a neat critter but why are they one of the most primo, probably so per sq inch or cm in their heyday, of furbearers...?
