I coyote trap a line that encompasses farms for about a 30 miles stretch. It’s more land than I can typically hit because I only have 10 days. I start checking or setting at daylight and don’t stop until dark. I have a single farm that is 15 miles out of the way. The guy has been begging me to trap it for several years. I finally agreed to it. It’s about 60 acres with half in crp. I’m having him make a bait station for cable restraints now. I plan to show up at daylight when I start and set traps with both of our tags on it so he can check them. Then go back every two to three days to reset. What do y’all think? Any more efficient ideas?

If the guy is willing, teach him to snare and then he can do it himself. What are your check laws? Here we are only required to check once every 4 days, if you have an extended check law I would take full advantage of it.

You only trap for ten days?

Pre set as much as you can I like snares with kill springs way over the CR's but that's just me , this is a time management situation with just a 24 check if possible as you mentioned it the landowner is willing to help with the check that is huge and will free up a bunch of time when possible I try to back track as little as possible and use my binoculars or spotting scope to check sets from a distance .

Catch a bunch!
Allan

What kind of schedule do you work? Maybe you could trap your regular line for your ten days and hit his property on nights after work or weekends.

Can’t he dispatch AND reset ? Both?
I’m with Bob, teach him some.

I trap 400 miles from work.

He can dispatch but I really only trust me to reset.

I’m thinking I’ll just do remakes every couple of days with him checking and dispatching daily. He’d bring me the animals.

As others have said, teach him and he can take care of it himself. (Or with your help)

I’m from southeast Missouri where I grew up on a farm and have access to 1000s of acres. I live in an apartment in Kansas City where I completed residency and stayed on for 1 extra year. Here I don’t have the time nor the means to trap. My wife and I are both from down there so we just go down on vacations. I’m counting down the days to when I move back down there to practice for good.

Ah, I see. Well I hope that you get the opportunity to move sooner rather than later. Good luck!

So you're looking at adding about a half an hour of drive time, (15 out, 15 back). If the spot ends up being a honey hole of fur, you might find that half hour of drive time more worth it then spinning your heels on your same old stomping grounds. Might be more of the dumb, uneducated ones there that have never seen a set, unlike those areas you visit year in and year out. Until you set it up and the landowner starts giving you reports back of catches you might end up changing your plan anyways.
