Drive a T bar stake right through the carcass.

I trap in the bush. I often will trim a peckerpole spruce(2-3 in diam) about 5 feet up with the sandvik to create a sharp point.Trim off all the branches down as far as the height i want the beaver carcass,if I dont want it on the ground(it gets cleaned up a lot quicker on the ground). Then I impale a whole beaver carcass thru the neck and pelvis.make sure the pole goes inside the ribcage and thru the pelvic girdle. You can stack a few if you want a bigger bait draw. You can re use the impale pole for quite a few years.
Smaller chunks of bait can be nailed to the trunk of a tree with a spike and a fender washer, wired,or wrapped in chicken wire and nailed or wired, and a spruce cubby built with the tree being the backing.Lots of marten fox and lynx were taken in these type of cubbies using footholds back in the days before bodygips were invented in the 50"s.These types of sets were abandoned for the much more efficient boxes and bodygrips.
Dont forget whatever method you use for the smaller baits you will have to replenish it on a regular basis so keep it simple.

I tie wire or use an old snare and go around the neck and cinch it tight. You can make a slice on either side of the neck and sink the wire or snare into them. The beauty of the old used snare is the more they pull the tighter it gets

I like to make buried-bait sets with beaver carcasses. Dig a shallow grave, throw in a beaver carcass, drive a t-bar stake down into it and cover it back with dirt. Keeps the buzzards away and predators will start working on it in a week or so... Do you set traps as soon as you make the station?

You would be better off driving T post and impaling 3 or 4 carcass on It then run around looking for spruce poles. LOL

Not exactly hard to find a spruce tree trapping in the bush Beav, lol. Now driving anything into ground frozen 11 feet deep might be tough.
