Okay thanks for the information guys. Is one of those notches more sensitive than the other? Is that why you do one on land and one on water?

Some triggers have more play in them, take a round file and deepen the notches so the trigger sets deeper in to the notches and you will have lest play in your trigger and they will go off faster too.

The trap springs give a bit more tension naturally when set on the closest notch. You can. Modify the dog and trigger so the trigger travel and sensitivity are more or less.

Side benefit of setting the farthest notch is that is makes the trap a tad more stable if you don't use a stabilizer.

here is 1/2 the tuning from the Basic Sets Forum .....I guess you aint been there yet

http://www.trapperman.com/trapperman/Basic_Sets_Bodygrip_Adj.html

the trigger yoke on the jaw can be opened a bit so it hits the dog sooner too, study it in your hand, and you'll see its simple mechanics actually
put lower pt of yoke in vise and tap the top lightly to snug it up or drive a punch or nail on both sides of the jaw, into the yoke.

Thank you sir. I've only used footholds most of my life. Never really got into conibears. Just picked up some used ones last year and want to give him a try

A great tool in the shed!

Just get that trigger tuned so it trips with bout 1/2" movement.

you DO have a body grip safety don't you? They are perfect for tuning, as well as when setting.

Picked up a body grip safety and two 330's yesterday. Also got permission to trap a beaver swamp not far from my house.

The 330 safety I love to use is the trappers safety pin. Looks like a bodyygrip spring and is yellow. Easy on and off and because it's yellow, it's easy to see when you forget to take it off or drop it.

Thanks, SniperB! Never seen those before! Looks like it will be a heckuva lot easier to use than some of those I have. Gonna get a couple of them.

I use whatever notch holds the trap firm the stabilizer. I put the trap on the H type stabilizers I use, then hold the trap to press the stabilizer into the ground.
