Checking traps at night can be tough. I saw eyes while hiking to some traps but then they were gone. I thought maybe something was working my set, but saw me and left. When I got to the trap I saw it was messed up and while looking for the cable that was anchoring the trap I realized the cat was right next to me. Watch the video to see how close. Good thing bobcats are mellow in traps haha.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.
Shot three lynx three winters ago, two were drt, the third ran into a huge patch of willows and wasn't bleeding, there had been 5 lynx in there when I saw them, tracks everywhere. Crisscrossed the patch, and after 15 minutes jumped out of my skin when I almost stepped on it, but thankfully, it didn't want to fight. Administered the coup de grace.
I check traps in the day light but I run a lot of my traps on drags. It is shocking how man cats I have nearly stepped on but notice the chain or the trap first. If they decide to lay still they are hard to see.

Very cool!! Neat that a person can get out of a big city and get trapping. I think you might have a bit of advantage, Vegas metro is pretty continuous and then you're out of it. No bits of urban here and there and everywhere. My nephew and family live on the south end of Vegas. I think people see Vegas as only the Strip or downtown and don't realize how many square miles of typical residential there is in the metro. Have fun the rest of the season!!

Yep. I don’t trap this close to town, but within 30 min of Vegas, you can going looking for elk, giant mule deer, or bighorn sheep. Do some awesome chukar or quail hunting, go shoot ducks, have some awesome trapping, and not see another person.
