Wife booked a trip to Wyoming, May 29th to June 4th. I know it's too early for river fishing due to run-off/ snow melt.

I'm thinking of a lake trout charter on Yellowstone Lake. Any of you MT & WY guys have any suggestions or contacts for some lake fishing?

I would be surprised if there is a charter on the lake of any kind. By the end of May the streams should be fishable, light colored caddis in 14-18 are an old stand by. For the lake small gold spoons and Blue Fox Super Vibrax size 1 early and late. Lake Trout are an invasive in Yellowstone. Yellowstone cutthroat are the natives.
Be sure and read the regulations CAREFULLY. Many areas are catch and release and or barbless artificial only. If you pack it in pack it out. Bear spray might be a good idea and the moose will have calves that time of year they can be very dangerous when protecting the babies. No firearms allowed in the park.

Fish the creeks with a #2 mepps, blue fox or other spinner. Unless your one of those guys that swing the other way! Deeper the creek I think the more potential for bigger trout. You could rent a boat to float the yellowstone, ive had pretty good fishing on it, that time of year

Go to nps.gov
Use the menu, and Under things to do, choose catch a fish, and then under that, go to the list of authorized outfitters for the park. You’ll need to wade thru all those listed, but I remember there were listings for Yellowstone Lake.

That could possibly be a little early to hit the lake. We have been snowed out on Memorial Day weekend before.

I stand corrected, when I lived up there firearms were not permitted in the park, as per the rules they gave you at the entrance.
Didn’t have a marina at the lake that I was aware of either. Circa 1990.

Bridge Bay Marina on the northwest side of the lake does trips and sells tackle for shore fishing the lake. I have caught both lakers and some big Yellowstone Cutthroat from shore there. I'll send you a PM with some more detailed info.

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate your suggestions. One of the marina charters did not start to run boats until June 11th. I will continue to look for something the first couple days in June. Definitely flying some rods out with me for some shoreline / stream work.

I've fished yellowstone lake early June a couple times.
Had great luck on cutthroat with bitchcreek nymphs. From boat with fly rod. From shore used water bubble with 6' leader on spinning rod. Cast out as far as possible and the very slow crank it in. At the time you couldn't keep anything over 13 or 15 inches. Cant remember which. All I remember is most were in 20+ inch range. Only got to keep a couple. Camped at marina campground. One year nice and warm the next year showed all the time there. Fly fished Firehole in snow that time. Stood in bath water and cast into cold water. Fish were rising to snow flakes, changed to mosquito dry fly. Worked great. Nothing in streams on nymphs.

Yellowstone lake has a Lake Trout suppression program. They netted something like 80000 this year. Might be better Laker fishing at a different lake.
