So..Question....( not my handy work ) ...but what’s the difference between my Russian hat...and your trapper hat ? I see some different ear flap angles ?

How many pelts did that take? Were you able to make it with a single otter, or did you need 2? Plus the beaver flap of course.

Obviously you'll use less fur if you use an outer layer like wool rather than full fur as directed in the book.

Trapper style is basically 4 triangular panels, front, back, and sides extending to ear flaps. I believe the ear flaps are longer and set tighter to the face.

I used one larger otter, plus a flap off another (lost some space due to rrub) and the front piece off a beaver. You could probably swing a full fur hat off one xxl beaver. The book actually calls for fabric outer as drasselt describes, you could easily do that off a small beaver or 3 or 4 muskrats

Here is a source for a trapper hat pattern through University of Alaska Fairbanks extension publications, sewing:

Yep,a slap up side the head with a frozen porcupine mitt will get their attention.

I could see those coming in handy. Don’t know if they’d work for straightening my dog out or if it would just get him more fired up
