Laminations on a trap that already has way more holding power then needed? Totally pointless and stupid! No idea why you would want to make an awesome trap more humane than it already is wink. Those traps look awesome. I bought a couple before I left Idaho when they first issued wolf trapping tags......butttttttttttttttt......it went to court and the season got cancelled so I never got to set them. Someone needs to bring those traps back. I have a half dozen that I'll most likely never get to use but there is no way I'm getting rid of them.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

The guys that teach the wolf classes say they need laminating and keep in mind, most wolves are sold with the feet on and the taxidermy market right now is one of the best options for selling them.Foot damage can cost you money just like tooth damage on a wolf skull will.Lamination does not increase holding power. It is about other issues.Everyone I have talked to that uses them for wolves, laminates them.I would say for beaver, probably not.

I just think it is very cool to trick stuff out in the off season for something trapping related and I like seeing my one of a kind traps on a beaver. Hey, if we ever get hybrid beaver wolves in Indiana, I will be good to go! grin

Flipper have you had lots of pullouts with the laminated 4 1/2’s on beaver? Lots of people have problems with pullouts when they use laminated beaver traps.

Atta boy.

My thoughts on the SC 4.5 are that it’s a decent wolf trap IF it doesn’t have to come through a crust of snow or frozen ground. It really struggles in that arena. In the beach sets I do in SE Ak. that trap really shines for #1 durability vs. cost in a coastal environment and #2 holding power, I have never had a wolf defeat nor get out of one, yet.....
In the role of a beaver trap it works pretty well. I feel that the trap was designed for this purpose. To fire under water, not in land sets.

For my use of the trap modifications to the jaws would be unnecessary, probably a detriment, actually. The PIT modification I would be interested in as I have had good experience with them, on different traps.

I have a couple dozen and a dozen MB750s offset and laminated. Bought for wolf trapping when others are unloading them after the court chucked out our Great Lakes season. Incredible beaver traps and whoever thinks that offset laminated won't hold a wet front beaver/otter foot is mistaken.

Addressing the "why laminate" I am often struck how very knowledgeable trappers on here often jump to the conclusions without earnestly exploring the "why". Beaver, you are perfectly wrong, I intend to release wolves. If I can let a wooly bugger of brown go to keep a long guard haired black or white why wouldn't I?

You will only get one tag and currently they are quite easy to catch (this will change). I have others circling me when I release one out of cat/coyote sets at times now. The week before Christmas one pull out and two days later had another in the same set, same trap.

There is also a potential for some contract work with various organization biologists. Something I intend to explore more in my retirement coming this year. Lets face it, supplementing retirement income with fur today will not cover medical insurance!

I run laminated traps on canine/cat on everything but Sleepy Creek which many of those are laminated as well.
