bite marks.
once in trap coyotes will get attacked. once they are pretty much confined the predatory response is triggered in the other animals which is to attack weakness.

same way if you shoot a turkey others will flog it

Belly will tell some of the story, bite Mark's from other coyotes is red Mark's ,,,mange or ticks is the black or last year burrs that made a scare. marks,,

I never thought about the overlapping damage. Blood means it was fresh damage that had to have occurred while it was alive, or still had circulation and could bleed/swell like it did. The black is scar tissue from a tick or mite. Makes sense when I see it that way.

Not always the case. Like I said, I've put up a lot of coyotes like that through the years. I easily recognized it as physical trauma. It's bite marks. Part of their ordinary lives of competing for food and breeding. I've called in and shot quite a few coyotes over the years that have the same type of damage. You'll especially start to see it more as breeding season approaches.

thats my thoughts.
I seen that same damage in quite a lot of coyotes about 10 years ago when I hunted an area infested with them.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
