Has anybody used pine cones to dye traps?
Just wondering if It'd be sticky and if it would leave a pine scent on them as some other dyed leave scent.
Thoughts?

I don't think pine cones have any/enough tannic acid for them to work.

Pine won't do it. Stick to the hardwoods. Do you have access to black walnut or butternut hulls? Those are great.

I happen to have a bunch black walnut logs from an orchard I cut down for a friend. But I did not save any of the walnuts or hulls themselves. Any chance the bark might work?

You need the husks. They make a really good black dye. We have so many of them that we have to fight the tree rats for them. I just smash them with the 3 pounder and toss them in the pail ready to boil. Nuts and all.

to leave pine scent I put cones in the tote after waxing, since there are pines where I trap
