I’m in a quest to trap a mink this year. Just something I’ve never done but always wanted to do. I live in west central Georgia

Anyway I have a couple of 110’s set behind my house in blind sets. One is set in a undercut bank that has a lot of critter tracks going through it.
Today I saw that my set was disturbed and I saw my chain was tight and I found my trap at the end of the chain (it’s on a drag with about 8 feet of chain so If I catch a Coon it hopefully won’t blow up the set) and I found a fox squirrel that looked like it had been skinned out totally and eaten except the feet. I mean it almost looks like it was case skinned in laying the head and then put in the trap.

What kind of critter would eat a squirrel like that?

Shrews.
Edit...something bigger mighta helped to get it started, but
shrews will tunnel in and eat it all, leaving skin and bones.
Nasty lil vermin.

I’ve had a couple snares lynx eaten the same way. One small entrance hole and completely hollowed out on the inside

Left long enough theyll slurp those down too. Very thin and full
of nutrients. Shrew are voracious and if there are enough around,
like hyenas.

The chances of that happening where this occurred is infinitesimal

I have had had coon clean skin a muskrat, cased. No bones were left. I put up the hide. It had a giant mouth hole on it, but it sold for something.
