I moved to Missouri this summer from New Mexico and have no experience in water trapping. I just started trapping some beaver and I'm seeing otter sign, caught one. I want to set out some Bridger #2's. I don't have any drowning sliders so I'm wanting to use my swivels for this year. I have 3/32 and 1/8 cable which would be best to use? Also how much is best for drowning set's for otter? I'll be prepared next year, I'm just wanting to take a stab at it this year. Any advise would be apprecitated, Thanks!

280 conibear. I would never reccomend setting for otter using #2 non-drowner footholds.
Yes, you might get lucky. I have, un-intentionally. I would not do it on purpose.

I've caught quite a few otter In those smaller foot holds. In fact they used the #11 to catch otter for restocking and were very successful. I have even caught a few otter while coon trapping when using a #1 1/2 get a good paw catch and your good to go.
If you can drowned them so much the better either sized cable will work.

Body grips and bigger traps have some advantages but for know use what you have.

Thank you for the feed back. I've got some 650's they may be better suited for the job. I planned on making them drowning sets I guess I didn't word it right when asking my questions.

I don't have any 280's or I would have used them
