I've had a problem with my bait being taken out out my mink boxes. Doesn't matter what it is, I've used sardines, fresh fish, venison, muskrat, it all gets taken. There's been no mouse droppings, or sign of raccoon around the boxes. But yesterday I found this dropping on a log nearby, I don't what it would come from. Then today I found it inside the box. Any ideas? Thanks!

How are you securing your bait?
Are you at least suspending it?

I have nail sticking out in the very back that I stick the meat on, fish muskrat, etc. If something was trying to drag it out, it would definitely set the trap off, I would think.

How deep is your cubby or box? I think you would be surprised how far some animals can reach and hook that bait and bring it out. Also how much room on each side of the trap jaws do you have. If you have an inch or so mink can go right past your trap.

Try a pan trigger trap set 4-5 inches in front of bait at back of box. [Linked Image]

Put your bait up against the screen, then stuff the box with some dry grass, then place the trap. For mink the box should just be the width of the trap, and the trap should be waxed so it fires with very little pressure,(but still crisp),otherwise the mink will just go around the trigger wires without firing the trap.
If you dont want to wax you could go with a pan trigger to make it fire easier.
I put the trigger on top.
