I've never purposely targeted nutria. I was wondering what type baits to use or should I forget the bait and blind set?

We catch em in castor mound sets, and levee crossovers frequently. (P. S. They are pretty good eating)

I wondered about that on the eating. Set some backwater today and saw a bunch of nutria sign. Figured I would put in a few sets specifically for the while checking beaver/otter sets.

Water possums. They wait in line saying, "Take me. Take me."

Blind set and put out extra traps if you have a decent nute population.

Torn up dirt on a bank will attract nutes. Make a small depression for a trap in front of a spot you scrape. I use a no1 3/4 or larger as one will get back foot catches and 1 1/2 will toe catch more often. Toe caught will pull out most times. After catching one more will be attracted to the torn up area. No bait needed.

We don't have many nutria here but I get them in beaver and otter sets body grip sets, pocket sets for coon, just about any set in the water.

For cage trapping we use apples, carrots and or sweet tators.
