With a big 'ol smile on my face, I enjoy my lady trapping wife, each time we are able to trap together. She picks the trap spot, I pound the stake to get her started, and by the time I walk nearby, pick my spot and get my set in, she's done at the same time. It's a slick system. We're setting a new ranch up and it was a bit chilly and wind from the north all day yesterday, so Donna had a couple extra layers on, but it did not slow her down. Who else has the pleasure of trapping with a partner of the opposite gender who really loves trapping and you find yourself cheering for them to catch more than you do? Blessings, Mark

The wife and I started trapping 30+ years ago, as a city girl she took to trapping, hunting and fishing like a duck to water. She always took her vacation from work in November so she could trap with me, which was something I surely enjoyed, even tho she dumped me out of the canoe a couple of times. LOL Being retired now she runs here own trap line, and it's become a contest, on who's a better trapper (It's her). She does her own skinning as well as most of mine, as I do the fleshing of the bigger and tougher critters, she does the mink, muskrat etc. She does most of the boarding, as she says I need glasses because the eyes are not centered as they should be. Would I have it any other way: NO I can't think of any thing being any better, and cherish our time together.

I only want to be known as:
A great husband, a good trapper, and a great steward of the land.

I guess if she is someone that is reasonable and you can get along with it might be okay. I had an outdoorsy type girlfriend once and she was so competitive that it ruined pretty much every outing we had. If I killed a bigger deer than her or something like that she would get blood coming out of her crazy eyes mad.
My wife doesn't trap or hunt but she is happy for me when I get something good and everything is great. So when I hear someone say they wished they had a gf/wife that hunted/trapped I say just be careful what you wish for. It's not always as great as they imagine.
Poor people have poor ways.

My wife used to hunt with me when we were younger and she still liked me. She doesn't like the cold now and would rather stay home. Now I don't hunt but take the kids since I have 2 young boys she will sit with one while I do the other during youth season and its warm. She was with my oldest boy the last 2 youth seasons he shot one.
I can't complain l dont have a nice place to skin so the day I dumped myself in the lake when I came home I was still chilled. She was taking my daughter to work but never said a thing when she came home to find me skinning a beaver in the kitchen on a fold out table or if I wash the blood ot of skins in the bath tub.
She didn't like it when I tried washing hides in the washing machine though. That's something for when/if I ever get my heater building built and my own dedicated machine for the purpose. That if I ever learn how to get things fleshed.
You are truly blessed with a wonderful wife Mark. Dont forget to post som pictures of her catches.

In Northern Ontario trapping is a Family affair. Whole family goes to the cabins when they can to take part in the harvest and every other thing that goes with that. It is a way of life here. Everyone contributes.
