Does anyone keep up with their Rabies vaccinations ? I had 2 or 3 incidents that concern me, and 1 went through the glove.

Do you get the booster shot? No Dr. has information on it... at least not near me locally.

Call your county health department. They administer shots. I got a shot a long while back, have had a booster once or twice, but have not kept up with it. The county provides shots at no charge. You can get a titer test to see, but seems just as easy to just get a booster if you are not outdated.

Our county health dept. does not know what you are talking about when you ask for pre-exposure shots.

The vast majority of the Drs around here are ignorant about the pre exposure shots as well. A veterinarian could give you better advise on those shots and how to get them than most MDs since the Vets have had the pre-exposure shots. They may be able to steer you in the right direction.

I get mine at the county health dept., pre-exposure shots and the titer shots as well ,The titer is checked every 2 years, and you must keep up the dates. There is a cost for ACO'S through the pd department. I hope this helps
Robert

Had my first pre exposure vaccine in the late 80's . Have had two full series of treatments over the last 25 years. Latest was in 2018. I get my titer count checked periodically. I believe as I recall that you should have a 6-8 titer count as a minimal level before a booster is required.

If an animal that has contacted you is positive or not recoverable for testing it is best to go thru the series.

Have no idea what they do in Illinois. My response was to from one New Yorker to another. They do take care of rabies here as I have been through it.

What did you get bit by? I see absolutely no reason to
Put pre exposure crap into your body

At the time I received my first pre exposure treatments I was working in several states with live fox and coyote about 4 months out of the year. I was very high risk so it was a no brainer for me. There were others that took it as well in the ADC field when a local physician offered a group rate to our state association.

The later treatments were from a bat bite and a raccoon bite. Years apart.

The only reason they give me shots is so that the animals that bite me don't get sick and die!

Here in Ohio, my doctor and the health department didn't know anything about it. I talked to my veterinarian and she told me she got hers at the travel immunization clinic at a local hospital. I got mine there. Cost was around $800 for the three shots. Two years later I went to get titer checked. They told me $795 but gave me a discount for paying cash and not having insurance to cover it. Ended up costing $400. I feel that the charges were excessive but had no other options since even the health department couldn't give me any info.

Same in Oregon. I'd have had better luck at a bowling alley. Tracked it down myself at a local grocery store with a pharmacy.

If not pre vaccinated and you contract the virus there is no treatment. You can contract the virus thru a open wound for the virus to enter. It's a piece of mind thing. If bitten by a known rabid animal the treatment is expensive also. But once you have the virus it's a slow grisley death. YouTube human rabies cases and watch em.

Yes, rabies is extremely dangerous. Approximately 2 people die from it every year in the United States! It's like a pandemic!

Lmao

Walkerdog if you have the pre exposure shots and get bit by a suspected rabid animal you go in and get post exposure shots.
If you have no shots and get bit by a suspected rabid animal you go in and get shots. What is the advatage?? Only thing it’s doing is putting something in you for no reason that can possibly cause side effects. Or am I missing something here?
