Thinking of trapping in Nebraska for my vacation.
Is there a trap size limit for coyotes?
I use MB 650s and No BS Extremes.
I didn’t find anything in the trapping regulations concerning trap size.
Any other tips for Nebraska trapping would be great too.
Thanks.

It really depends on what part of the state you'll be trapping. The different areas can be night/day difference. I'd say coming from Texas your biggest hurdle will be dealing with the freeze/thaw. That seems to be the biggest issue with keeping traps going in Nebraska. Also depending on what time of year and area what you have to get around in. Sometimes trucks can't make it where you need to go.

MN is 8 3/4 foothold, 7.5 Coni's on dry land . Got sick of messing with Coni's . To me, they are more hassle than they are worth.

Thanks everyone. I am going to make wax dirt next week. It will be my first time making it. I’m excited at the possibility of new country. I know a rancher down here who has a ranch in extremes western Nebraska. I’m hoping he will let me base out of his ranch house and trap his place. Then I can find other ground once I get there. It will be my first out of state trip.

Thanks for the heads up on the frozen ground. I’m a glutton for punishment. I enjoy some stuff that runs others off.

I live in extreme northwest Nebraska and if your planning a trip out this way yet this year plan on the ground frozen hard as concrete. I,m one of the few fools still at it around here. On the plus side, with the lack of snow this year you can still get around fairly well. Are they rubbing out that way yet? I'm thinking he's about a month and a half to late to start planning a trip. Fur quality will be going downhill, if it isn't already.

Fur quality will be going downhill, if it isn't already. I'm in the almost extreme southwest. There will be some nice ones here and there but for the most part they aren't going to be the best wherever you are in Nebraska this time of the year. But there's still some decent ones to be had.

I generally start after thanksgiving and quit around the first week or so of January. Seems to best quality window for me. Starting after thanksgiving puts me after the rifle deer guys (for most part) and even bird guys have been at it for a good month by then so less folks out and about around here. The pickup coyote army is about all I have to deal with on properties I have access to. Just hide your sets well and I usually pick spots they can't drive to or have not much cover so they tend pass them by.
For quality though LDW is right mid November through to first of January is your best stuff. Quality goes downhill fast after first week of January around here. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
