Describe the scenes of your pullouts or post pics of em. Hard to help without them

Pullouts fit the most part are caused by a few main things. Sniperb is right, we really need more info to narrow it down, but here are a couple things to check

Pan tension. You do not want a super light hair trigger. 1-5 pounds depending on what you’re targeting.

Inadequate swiveling. All of your traps should have a bare minimum of two swivels, three is better.

Deer. They will step in your trap and pull it to the end of the chain and slip out. If you’re using urine or salt on your sets it can cause them to try to get at the minerals so if that’s the problem stop using it.

Extremely weak traps. This is the least likely, but it does happen when you’re using real old traps with worn out springs. If this is the case you need to replace your springs.

Please post more info so we can give you a better, more in depth answer!

What type of critters are you trying to trap and what are you covering your trap with?

Bob gave you many good lessons. Read and reread.

I will add another. Using a trap that is too small for the intended animal species. As a beginner you use what traps you have. Take a look at size recommendations. Also stake your traps very securely and so an animal cannot get tangled and pull out.

Report back with how it is going.

best wishes!

Don’t include non-target catches. Read the rules. Makes us trappers seem bad.

To be able to help you more some info would be nice to have
1. What size traps are you using and are they footholds, coils, modified etc.
2. What species are you trying to catch
3. What are you bedding your traps with or in
4. What pan tension are you trying to have on your traps
5. Are the traps pulled tight (chain) and is there a sign of a catch circle or not
6. Some of the traps could be set off by animals due to poor bedding and the animal may not have ever been in the trap.
7. What type of sets were you using, dirt hole, flat sets, blind sets.
8. Were any of these pullouts in water sets or are they all land sets
You have caught some animals, were you using the same setup or did you make some changes.

Bryce

Something else to think about is if a freeze thaw cycle is setting your traps off . Depending on what you're bedding the traps in , a freeze / thaw cycle and a hair trigger/little pan tension causes them to fire by expanding and contracting wet bedding material . Need more info on what you're seeing .
