I am installing PIT Pans on some old #3 and 4 double long springs and jump traps. A mix of Victor and Blake and Lamb traps.

I bought a couple PIT -01 medium pan kits and I put one on a 3 jump. I like the pan size. It’s similar to the original pan, but with the sides trimmed off so it’s a little smaller. I was looking at the PIT -02 which is the same except it has a bigger pan. More like the original pan on the traps. Then I saw the step down pan...

I was looking at using these traps for double duty on beaver and coyotes. I hear a smaller pan for beaver is good but kinda like a bigger pan for coyotes. Also, I like a low pan for coyote, but am no sure if a step down is good for beaver. I don’t trap much beaver but am looking forward to in the future.

I guess my question is whether step down pans are a good or bad idea for beaver traps? Also, is there a decent compromise pan size for beaver and coyote?

Thanks guys.

Never used them but I don't see a drawback to a step down pan for beaver. You want them committed and as deep in them smaller traps (or any trap) as you can get them. [Linked Image]

I talked to Ed today. What a great guy. He told me that the step down pans are a no go on jump traps but on the double Longs they are perfect perfect. I’ll just get the regular trap pans for the jump traps.
