Question...
After you catch one or two coyotes at a spot and have little to no action for a week or two there, do you pull your trap and set up at another place some yards away?
I caught 2 at a place and then seems like Mr. Smarty Pants showed up and has been eating the bait and pooping around but can't connect with him (or her).
I set 2 traps a little apart and staggered, but can't get the dog fooled. Wondering if changing the set location might be a better option.
Tried both a dirt hole and flat set.

Try a set outside the circle with just a scat and tad of urine - no other bait or lure - subtle.

I’ll second what beezmador said. I will add that a fresh set down wind with a poke hole and some mink gland lure has worked well for me.

X4.

Sometimes it works to take the trap out of in front of the dirthole and move it to the 11:00 position behind the dirthole.

If one keeps coming back it's just a matter of time before you get it. Move stuff around a little so they put their feet in different spots.

Just passin through

I would look for a clump of green sod grass that stands out from the usual brown seasonal vegetation, (about 5-6 inches round, and around 6 -8 inches tall) then transplant the sod and grass a few feet downwind of the old set.

Bed traps on both sides of the grass clump, squirt some urine on the grass, a turd right in the top if you have one, won't hurt either.

Like Larry said but I would leave trap there and add a trap back there on orginal set. Make another set someone else's turd from somewhere else not far from existing set.

You didn’t say how deep your dirt hole was , if it’s not 10 to 12” deep that could be part of the problem . Some people get by with less but I don’t seem to be able to catch one on his first approach unless I make him work a little .

You can set up a trail cam and find out just what that problem yote is doing at your sets. I have done this on some tricky ones and the video footage just might surprise you . Coyotes do some weird stuff sometimes.

I always set outside the catch circle after every catch and it's working very well for me!

Made a set outside the catch circle just as beezmador and others suggested - Caught the varmint!!
Only one problem - he's mangy... losing fur on his back and tail was almost bald. LOL!!

Good going, nicely done! May not be a good one for the fur, but it is a real good one to remove from the population! You might try setting another trap just outside of that new circle and try that type of set again - might be another one to pick up there as I'm sure it now smells a whole lot like coyote
