This was my 1st year of muskrat trapping. I purchased some used BMI and Victor 110s from ADC and it seems like they are an above average 110 by $ price. They worked really good, but I also caught rats in my duke 110 and bridge 150(got it as a free gift from MN Prod).

When you are talking muskrats, is there "the need" to stay with the better(I'm assuming the $7 110s are better than $4.50 110s) 110s?? Is there a need to go with "magnum" over the regular 110s??

Wanting to add some more 110s, but looking for opinions on "what is truly needed" for muskrats.

i believe anything works especially for rats, just like most things you can use the most basic or you can get the better stuff. I personally still use the cheaper stuff along with my newer and have no difference in catches as long as i have them in good places

I think the bmi set on bank runs for mink work better but in the water not so much.

Sounds like you have a decent amount of 110 coni's. Have you thought about getting or making some colony traps? You will like the multiple catches in good rat runs. Some places you just can't get a colony trap in & the 110's you already have will be the tool for the job there.
Hope this helps!

I have some colonies. I was just looking to add another dozen or so 110s. I currently have 15...was 16, but something made off with 1. Thinking an otter took the trap and rat, but not 100% sure.

I think the BMI are the only ones really worth the extra money they charge for new traps, mainly due to their bell shaped triggers and the springs seems to stay good longer. If you were targeting mink then I'd suggest paying the extra, but for rats, get the Dukes. IMO, the magnums are not enough more money to not get them, may as well spend that couple bucks to be on the safe side. With the NTA convention in Iowa this year, I'd wait and buy there,,, or if you throw a baseball well you could win a dozen pretty cheap. Duke is always a VERY BIG supporter of the game.

I wonder why they failed in the water for you? I run a pretty serious mink line at times and have had great luck above and below water. 55s are a favorite of mine. Im sure other bodygrippers work well but all I use are Victors and BMIs.

RBG traps are the only thing I’d say matter, they are more expensive and higher quality but they are round and fit into places better.

Maybe I said that wrong. They do still work great in the water just it doesn`t matter witch trap you use in the water. The bmi close tighter so on land it makes a quicker dispatch. In the water their going to drown so doesn`t really matter as long as it holds onto the animal.

I purchased some Duke 110 Magnums from PCS a few weeks ago for $3.79 each. Springs are very strong, all the triggers were good. Even held an extra large male mink no problem. And a head catch opossum in a mink hole set.

Thank you for the feedback. Looks like I would not be gaining much by going $$$. Will be ready to buy at the NTA.
