I'm thinking about getting some foothold beaver traps, so what would be the best ones to get. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on them, but I also want reliability. Any info would be great, thanks.

I've found the mb750 os beaver is the best for me so far. No issues other than they are currently on back order. Not too pricey & I've been lucky & have found most of mine from trappers that their long careers coming to a close and are unable to set them anymore. I've also found a few on craigslist since NAFA went down & COVID..

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

Snares, snares, snares let the castor buy you big dbls, always send them swimming if possible, I ran Bridger #3 and mb650s on 12' coyote drags cuz I had them and set too many traps and ended up with more than I could skin or should I say my back wanted too, make sure your set up post catch their heavy wet, a deer cart helps, boards, pins, drying loops, hangers, knifes, fleshing board, castor drying rack and container, sac oil container, BTO items, meat and fat gets chunked and tossed in separate 5 gallon buckets for next fall, skinning them is work they save me hundreds on my coyote line yearly

The MB750 Is a great beaver trap. But stay away from the offset jaw model. The offset jaws give you NO advantage when beaver trapping.

MB750 is my go-to beaver trap. Never had a pull-out. I also agree with Beav to avoid the offsets primarily in the situation of a front foot catch.

Read through this previous thread.

Ain’t a beaver trap sold that won’t reliably catch and hold beavers, and I have them all. What keeps me reaching for CDR’s and leaving the others in the shed is the pan system on CDRs (currently sold by WCS as the 7.5 beaver pro). And it’s not that the pan CATCHES better (although I will say the PIT system is very consistent pan tension at around 3.5 pounds and that helps) it’s that you can flip it up and stand on the trap to bed it, get everything how you like it, and the last thing before walking away you push that pan down with the handle of the beaver rake until you hear that satisfying click.

I want to hear from other guys who have caught at least 1000 beaver. Not that I’m foolish enough to think we will all agree, but once you’ve caught around 1000 beaver MINIMUM you start to have really good, time and numbers tested reasons for your preferences, and those are the guys to get advice from.
And I don’t just want to know what those 1000+ beaver guys’ favorite trap is, but just as important, I want to know WHY. You will find that all of those guys are correct. They are choosing the best trap for their conditions and situation and with their system/style of trapping. And there is something to be learned from each one of them.

I really like the old CDRs. Carl gave me a half dozen of the prototypes to test. I used them and gave recommendations for improvement. The old prototypes had regular levers, but the final product had wire levers that were superior to the regular ones. I've not tried the newer ones put out by WCS. I like the pan set-up where you can preset it, and it is still safe to handle and transport. They hold really good too.

Once the CDR folks sold the rights to the trap, I went to the Bridger #5 coils. These also hold really good and are affordable. I do have to tweek the pan to get the tension I want, but that's not a big problem.

There are many good beaver traps out there, and like autos, we all have our preferences.

Well I have caught over a 1000 beaver and my go to trap would be the 330 BG. With few MB750s to fit certain situations.

I caught a lot of beaver over the years,in all seasons with all kinds of traps and snares (except cages).I did learn the old native way with nets because I was curious about that method.
Best beaver trap is a 330.For all seasons.I have caught by far the most beaver with 330's,more than 90% I would guess.
Footholds and snares are important tools especially when doing nuisance beaver work.Snares are efficient under the ice also.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

330 primarily for. I do use the TS85 for my drowning set. I have had a big female pull out of that and caught her in a 330 days later. Anybody else have that happen often with the TS85. Looked like a good high catch

I've used #5 Bridger LS, #5 Bridger CS, #5 Montana, CDR, B&L #44 LS, #4.5 Sleepy Creek LS, plus a bunch of smaller coilsprings and longsprings.

The standard MB750 is my favorite. Although, the #4.5 Sleepy Creek is excellent...just too difficult to set.

Closed jaw and no laminations. Bauer locks and chain drowners.
