Finally connected on my first beaver!! One at a castor mound set and one in a dam crossover. Had no action for a bout a week but this recent rain got them moving. Fleshed em out and put them up last night. But since they're my first, I wanted to do something special with them and leave as little to waste as possible. So I need some suggestions.

1) Which tannery do you all use? Preferably one that converts fur into garments as well. I want to get one tanned and one turned into something.

2) Who does beaver tail wallets and how should I process the tail for this?

3) Thinking about putting one on a willow hoop. Anybody know who I could send my furs out to to have this done?

Check in the crafts form. There are a few very talented people here who make some ineradicable stuff and might be able to help you out. Might check out Moyle Mink and Tannery for getting your hides tanned. If you want a beaver hide hooped, I wouldn't do a commercial tan as it gets too thin and will rip out. I hoop mine and tan it on the hoop. The flesh side will be against the wall and the hide doesn't need to be softened. I use the orange bottle available at most trapping supply places, it't called Hid Tanning Formula and is very easy to work with.

There was a guy on this site that made some awesome looking wallets. Maybe do a search. There are likely more than the guy that I am thinking of as this site seems full of crafty folks. I wished I had known about the beaver wallets when I caught my 1st one.

Rand Schuff made my checkbook he does some fantastic work !

I'd suggest that you go find some willows in your area to make a hoop out of for the display take your time bending them another idea is to make a square box for it in either case you could use the sticks those beaver cut and used to build their dam to be part of it .
