At iced over beaver dams with a constant water flow over the dam place a 280 or 330 BG trap or two back under the ice. Enlarge the hole if necessary, to accommodate the traps. Then block off the sides to the dam with sticks thus forcing the otter through the trap(s). With patience this set will take any otter using the creek system.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I trap quite a number of otter through the ice every year and the advice given by HFT and 3 fingers is spot on
We get out of life only as much as we really want and work hard enough to achieve

overflow is a pain and there is no answer that I know of . I generally avoid the stuff Another set that can be used After freeze up on small creeks that they are using is going along the edge eyeballing it when you see a small hole or crack that produces a weak spot in the ice after the water has dropped you can open it up take a look and sometime you will see trails they are running under the ice a coni in that trail or two or three along a short stretch can really be a deadly set

There is a way to trap them on top of the ice/snow, if you learn their travel patterns sledding on top. Takes patience and hope it doesn't snow 8 inches or more. Fence off the travel route and place a 330 or two in the fence. Walking a trail to and through the 330's seems to help. Over time you also learn to avoid locations that overflow. Traps and or catches frozen in overflow equals work.
