This year I ground up some castor with mice and used that for lure/bait on my remake sets. I caught a lot of critters that way. Not necessarily from the bait when it is in a nice red fox catch circle but I was happy with it

What did you use to grind it up.. wasn't sure if a blender would be strong enough
I used an old blender. It was plenty strong enough. Mice and castor were frozen. It was a mess. Wanted to stick to the sides of the blender, just had to shake it a bit
Buy a small cheap food processor at Dollar General. I think I paid $11 for one. I cut the castor glands into small chunks and add some glycerin to lube things up. The castor glands ends up like a smooth purée....you can then add Everclear, poplar bud oil, molasses or whatever else you choose to the castor.
Why dry chop grind and blend when you can just scrap out the fresh castor add some glycerine and you have a nice paste. You get the same results with a lot less work.

LOL Gary, I'll bet there's less work in feeding them into my grinder than to cut and scrape them. I pick up the castor and drop it into the throat of the grinder and shazzam, I have ground castor. I do have to hang them to dry, and then clean the grinder after grinding, but it's not that bad. I generally wait until I have five gallons of them, then do the grinding.
I use the same grinder I use for grinding meats and fish for bait making, but I use a plate with little holes vs the 3/4" holes I use on the other stuff.
