I have read a lot on here bout using snares. Watched a couple videos. I placed em where there's a well used trail. When I was waiting for them to come in the mail I swept the trail and watched the tracks add up when I was doing my normal trap checks. Placed the snares now nothing is going on the trails for 2 weeks now. Any idea what I can do to change that? Any chance I could try some trailing fish oil or something on the trail going through the snare?
Any ideas would help. Thank you in advance.

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

Guess it depends on what sort of critters you’re after?

And how you are setting your snares. Any pictures?

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Pretty much coyotes and fox. No pics yet will try when I'm out again Monday's check. But loop is hugged up against the sagebrush in the middle of raven. With brush and rocks blocking opposite side if anchor.

Did you move in the blocking or was it narrowed down?

Most were there, moved one in but most of them are naturally there.

In that case, by now you should be able to see a trail going around your snare if they are avoiding it for some reason, but more likely whatever was using that trail has quit using it for some reason, unlikely its because of your snare. There are times trails just go dead. That said I have put some call lure up on a fence post or high on a tree in the area to get them wandering around to find the source of the smell. I put it 15-20' away from the snares. You want them traveling through the snares at a normal pace, not cautiously looking for a scent right at the set IMO.

Also, set more snares. IMO its a waste of time to have out less than at least 2 dozen, 4 dozen is about the minimum I'll have out when snaring coyotes if I expect to make a catch of 1 - 5 a day. Their range is large and it just takes time for them to incidentally walk into your sets. They aren't like coons and deer that travel their trails almost every day.

Another question. Is there a certain temperature that you guys stop using snares as they'll be dispatched when they get caught unlike footholds. That way they're less likely to get green belly. Not sure how long it takes to set in but I spose fox would start to get it sooner. Sounds weird but its hitting 60s here during the day and bout 15 @ night.

Did you dip or paint your snares?

They'll be fine on a 24 hour check.

Never thought of that. When I don't have snow my snaring success suffers. This will help.
