Doing a little research and it looks as though you can’t trap in Colorado with anything other than a live trap? What the heck?

Cage traps, DP's and footholds hold them all "live".

only body grips don't.

Pretty sure you mean cage traps.

Yep - I left there in '81 and the antis were busy then.

Lots of Monday morning quarter backs and uniformed opinions about what happened.

A lot of good people fought hard against a a stacked deck that unfortunately was spawned from within the CDOW aka the Evil Empire.

Find you a copy furbearer management analysis by Dr James Fritzgerald done for the DOW and Colorado residents attitudes toward trapping in Colorado. Both done around 1995.

When you get into a battle like that you’ll find out who your friends are real quick

I certainly did not mean to imply that. That has been long enough I really don't remember how it came about. I was looking more for what to do, or not do to keep it from happening anywhere else. I know to belong to state Associations, and watch legislature. I was hoping for advice on what to do to be proactive.

It's about to happen here in NM also. My neighbor is a state senator and tells me that unfortunately it will probably pass this year.

What town and mine was that in?

FWIW the state vote came in 49% VS 51% Just like this November, a few large towns over ruled 98% of the state.

If that’s the case, then every Blue State could lose their trapping rights. I’d venture a guess that 90% of our State is Red...the 10%, where the majority lives, controls the votes.
Personally, when it comes to votes on wildlife, only those with valid hunting/fishing licenses should have a vote.

It's crazy how little control we really have. After talking with my neighbor, he tells me that there are no real arguments, no experts called in, no wildlife biologists, or conservation officers. No evidence is given either for or against, they just vote depending on the letters they receive from their constituants or along party lines. It's sickening.
