I've been running napa in my semi and skidder but they just don't take the cold in their second year but they test good . I usually shift them over to my hay tractors . This year it is out of hand whats your favorite HD batterie for cold cranking

Google the brand " Interstate" batteries and your zip code. Hopefully not to far from where you are there will be a dealer.

Warm weather weakens batteries cold weather kills them- I spent a lot of time in Sedalia with a little of both. I run Optima's but for the price you could replace a few interstates for the price of one.

Those old air starters sure worked good in cold weather. So long as you didnt have any leaks. The tank for the starter was quarantined from the brake air. Usually it wasn't a problem. Shot of ether in the intake and give the motor a spin.

I try to park where I can reach with an extension cord. You could also get a small generator if you cant do that. It doesnt take much. 200 amp boost and starter fluid works. I know your not supposed to use starter fluid anymore but it sure works good.

I've had very good results using Interstate and Tractor Supply Traveller batteries Heavy Duty. I always get the most CCA in that size I can get. :-)

NAPA batteries are junk. Lots of bad luck with them. Interstate has been working great.

if you buy interstate dont buy from a box store,im a dealer and when talking to my interstate guy he told me that the batteries that we send back for any problems get checked out and if they dont find an obvious problem they get relabled an sold at the box stores, thats why they are cheaper, and most likely have a problem, maybe a small problem but none the less.take it for what its worth

They have battery warmer pads that mount on battery. Several folks in North Dakota used them. I just put in the frost plug warmer for my truck. You do have to park within extension cord distance though from plug in. But, with timers, 30 minutes of warming a battery will make life more enjoyable. Have my old JD 4020 diesel plugged in now.......just plan for 30 minutes before I need it.

Kat's Battery Heaters are good ones. Cheaper ones but I have had good luck with Kats heaters as well on other products.

Do you use the vehicle every day? Batteries are not made to be sitting very long.

The old 3406 cat in my semi gets plugged into the generator whenever it gets below 20 . With new batteries I can push that down to about twelve before it gets to stiff to turn over . I cary a generator around with me a lot when it gets cold I've had interstate batteries from the trucker supply store .do the one year thing then I had to shift them over to smaller tractors or things that have gear reduction starters . Ive got an old red top opptima batterie in a skidder that didn't look new when i got it in a skidder in 2007 it still cranks that little Detroit like a champ no mater what the temp . My brother didnt fair so well with the optimas he bought 3 years ago he bought five at once all are junk now . If it wasnt for that I'd buy optimas

I think I'll try interstates from a different dealer . I need to look into weather I can get a gear reduction starter for that cat

I don't care how good they are. If they relabel and sell as new they are crooks. Costco sells interstate and I can't see them knowingly playing that game.

Synthetic 5w40 or 0w40 makes a big difference on battery. Shut the hydraulic pump off on a tractor.

Weather like this is why I have no desire for a diesel pickup.

Mark if you put that charger on 40 amps for a few minutes to warm the batteries up then hit that 200 amp boost, it should spin pretty good. Been a million gallons of ether sprayed into those old 3406's too when temps are single digit or negative.

When out in the woods and can't plug in, most folks run a diesel fired coolant heater. Brands such as Espar or Webasto, program so it's warmed up when you get there. Not that tough to install and taps right into the machines fuel tank.

I carry a battery charger with the generator. It just gets old . A new battery will crank for a while a year old battery will only crank for 10 seconds if your lucky . I get tired of the constant everyday heat charge jump to get things running

Only a few companies actually make batteries. Johnson Controls makes batteries for a lot of brands.
