So I was thinking about trapping at a location somewhat close to the highway out to my cabin next season for marten and wolverine and I was thinking about asking if anyone traps there, but I wasn't sure if that would be wise to ask that question here. I am just trying to be courteous and I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I also don't want to advertise locations on the internet so what's the best way to go about finding out? Any thoughts?

Also, I would like to add that the area I currently trap is in a low spot and the lynx and fox are plentiful, but marten and wolverine are extremely rare. That's why I was thinking about maybe making a few sets somewhat close to the highway in a more mountainous location because my assumption is the marten and wolverine population is probably a little bit better in the higher elevations.

About all you can do is scout it out now and see if anyone is there. Come next year set it. If you stepped on someone's turf they will let you know, just be respectful.

The problem with just asking around, you will surely find the guy like I ran into once who said his line was "the mainland, all the way from Ketchikan to Juneau"; I think he thought he was serious.

I agree now would be the time to check it out. Maybe ask anyone you know of that is trapping in the general area.
Check with the closest private property owner in the area where you are looking.
If it is a seismic line or existing trail someone is probably claiming it or possibly working it.
There is so much occasional use (weekend trappers ) on the highway system nowadays you will see a lot of pullouts with the same trucks parked there on Saturday mornings.
Maybe Google map it.
Cut your own line and lay claim to it.

Also, local pilots are often a great source of information re who is where in the country.

That's hilarious, but I know you are right. I would just give that guy the big middle finger. LOL

What 3 fingers said is good but getting a flight over the area is what I have done and I saw for myself!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

If you fly over Southcentral Alaska this time of year I believe you will see plenty of sno-go tracks. 99% won't have anything to do with trapping. IMHO

Thats the truth! From the Alaska range south to the coast is a ton of recreational riders that get into very remote areas looking for that fresh stash of powder to ride.

Your best bet is to get out there and scout it out ASAP. With this years low snow level and trapping winding down, a lot of us are hitting it as hard as possible for the end. If you see no sign of trapping going on AND no sign of gear hanging or last year trapping sign, then I say go for it next year. Also asking lodges or businesses near the location wouldn’t hurt. If there’s a trapper in the area, they would know it. Good luck!
