I like a vise with a pedestal that doesn’t need to clamp on the table. I worried it might not be secure enough, but it works fine and I can use it wherever I want. I have a Renzetti traveler.

Also tied 1,000's with the $2 vise that came with my beginning Herters kit. I finally did swap screw to table base for a solid board base. Still have it but my family upgraded my one xmas and adjust height and rotating head are VERY nice. A quality vise mostly speeds tying IMO(or very tiny flies).

I tie a large variety of flies for myself and for when I guide, and I love my Atlas Anvil. It is a reasonably priced rotary vise (think I found it on sale for $140 about 5 years ago) and has held up very well to the abuse I have sent its way. Two thumbs up for the price and I would (and will) buy another one when I need it.
I prefer one with a pedestal base too, but with the volume and types of flies I tie, I need the rotary function, even though many get by without it.

For proper muskie Flys your going to want something like a Dyna King. When you crank on Kevlar thread to spin deer hair, nothing on the dyna king will give. Your gonna end up there eventually, might as well start there. https://dyna-king.com/rotary-vises
