Over the past 8 days we have received 7.7” of rain with more forecasted this week! Our only hope is the following week there is none in the forecast at this time. Down here water doesn’t soak in during the “winter” months like it does during the summer. Really need a break in this weather.

If you are as saturated as we are in NC, there is nowhere for it to soak into. We have had standing water most of the time for the last two months and no relief in site, Most of what falls, runs off now. Sure could use some sunshine and some March wind to dry things up some.

Harold I was driving down the road this morning and got pulled over by the Coast Guard for not wearing a life preserver.

Yeah, just praying we don’t get heavy winds. We’d lose some serious trees as saturated as the ground is. I walked some plantation cut pines the other day looking for sheds and water is literally flowing through the Wiregrass. Roads and feed trails almost look like creeks flowing. Burning season is gonna be tough unless things start drying out. I’m supposed to start trapping this plantation at the end of the month too. Nothing but Pipe Dream sets or flat sets set like the PDS’s would work with this wet weather. Dirt holes are definitely out of the equation.

Predator work for me is about out the question for the time being too. Lots of good beaver locations...everywhere.

We have had a dose of freezing rain in my neck of the woods. Not to bad at my house but looks like a war zone where my son lives just 30 miles further north. Power has been out but it is patched up enough to get it back on until the power company has time to fix it right. Trees down all over, roads blocked and lots of folks still in the dark. Pine trees suck in ice storms but the hardwoods start breaking too when it get heavy enough. Sounds like gunfire in the woods. Son is clearing roads, yards and driveways in his neighborhood.

And the next wave of rain moving up from the gulf is just starting. I am past ready to see some sunshine!

I’m with you WB. This has really screwed me up. I’m now out of some money I was to make on nest predators because we’re gonna time out and there was no sense in setting out this weekend!!!

Some days I think I could trap anything anytime. Others I wonder if I’ll ever make another catch...

I had one property that was basically just running water everywhere. Only got on it for a week. Another property started filling up, but I was done anyways. Next year should really be good. Can’t start the plantations until March anyways. Hopefully it’ll slack off a little. I don’t even know if they’ll be able to get the rest of their scheduled hunts in. Mostly it’s the hunters who cancel, the horses and dogs don’t mind the rain and water, lol.

Only thing: in Ga, after the last day of Feb the individual property must have a furbearer control permit issued by DNR Game Management or it is illegal to kill anything but coyotes and beavers.

Most every wild bird plantations have them around here. I’ve even heard of some private properties that have them.

You have to be named on the permit as the trapper to be legal. Just fyi.

We've been at 0 degrees or colder for the last 2 weeks almost. I'd trade.

I wrote the plan for the place I manage to get our permit. It’s been a while, but I thought you could hire a trapper. That could very well be wrong though. It’s me, so it hasn’t mattered.

Talked to the managers and they will add me. They had their names on the permit since they were the actual managers.
