I just got offered a job by the road commission to trap beaver. $50 apiece, and I get to keep my catch. I’m excited because I’ve been wanting to do nuisance trapping as my job. I’m 16 yrs old, and this will be my first time being employed. This is also my first trapping season. I moved here in September, after moving away from Colorado Springs. I’m being mentored by an old-timer here, and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve caught 3 weasels in boxes I built, 4 muskrats in baited 110s, a mink in a creek set, and a beaver in a baited 330
May God bless you and give you tight chains

Haha, people are a bit different out there. I caught a beaver yesterday and want to keep the castor, but am not sure what I can do with it. Coyote season is just closing, so I can’t use it as predator lure. Everything is still frozen over, so I can’t make any castor mounds. Same with the tail... I don’t wanna waste these things, but have no real use for them right now.
May God bless you and give you tight chains

Buy a bottle of Dobbins' Backbreaker and you should really pile the beaver up as spring approaches and arrives. Great to see you have the ambition to work hard and make some money. Keep the tails and search the archives here as to properly saving the castor and sac oil. Castor will bring a significant amount of money if you handle it properly! Good luck too. Chris

Beats the heck out of my first job. I did a side by side test between Backbreaker and my homemade castor lure this year and came to the conclusion it's best to just sell the castor and use it to buy Backbreaker.

Trapping U.P.: If you want a great Michigan beaver lure check out Bob Wilson's Green Beaver lure. Its developed with Michigan beaver glands and other additions.
I used it some years back and even in the summer it worked well. F & T sells it here in Michigan.
