Alaska trappers,

"Our" Senator "Lease-a" Murkowski joined with Democrats yesterday in Senate Resources Committee to vote to send on for confirmation the blatently anti-trapping nominee, Deb Haaland for the position of Secretary of Interior.

Previously "our" Congressman Don Young endorsed Haaland as well.

We need to let these elected politicians know just what exactly we think of their actions. The next four years are going to be terribly long ones at the rate we are heading

Personally, I am EMBARRASSED by their actions in this regard and I have let them know (in my own subtle, diplomatic way...)

Pete

Don really surprised and disappointed me.
No surprise Lisa did what she did. She has been a liberal in her actions and votes for years. I have no doubt she will run for re-election, but it won't be under the republican ticket. Of course, with the new voting rules, that's now just a formality.

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

I watched the initial hearing first and was very disappointed in Don Youngs endorsement of Deb Haaland..I think we all need to be more involved in our associations...we are in for tough times..

Since Bush voters have been stalwarts of support for Senator Murkowski, I am going to be interested to see how they justify continued support for her after she has become a cheerleader for a Secretary of Interior who is against oil development, trapping and hunting.

Seems sort of counter-productive to one's own best interests. Then again, politics is a funny business and often makes no sense!

She is not against hunting. Trapping is not that popular in the Bush since 1987, but government money has grown in popularity.

There is very little trapping going on along the upper and middle Yukon. No spiderweb of trapping trails radiating out from villages anymore. If a young adult has the gumption, there are easier ways to make money. If gumption is lacking, the safety net is there. The old timers are dying off. I don't know of anyone between Eagle and Kaltag that's fishing all summer and trapping all winter, but there might a few left. It's a cash economy out there and trapping doesn't generate much cash.

While I would agree, I have also found that rural communities are generally supportive of trapping and not at all anxious to sit by and watch it be banned.

I would disagree with that. There are plenty of trappers. in Galena, husila, naluto, kaltag, circle. Go set a line out in the middle yukon area and you will who is trapping there.

Life is hard. It's even harder if your stupid!

Don't we all know that when they make trapping illegal hunting is next..I am sure you all understand that...or do you mean subsistence hunting[native indians].
