So, I get this notice that the phone company is implementing a new 10 digit dialing procedure . Come 10-24-2021, ALL LOCAL CALLS MUST HAVE NOT ONLY THE PHONE NUMBER, BUT ALSO THE AREA CODE TO BE COMPLETED !!! So, now , I have to dial the area code AND the phone number of the Restaurant, to order my DONUTS!!! in the SAME TOWN!! Anyone else get this notice ??? it has been making its way across the country for about 10 years started in large metro areas anyone dialing from a cell phone already dials the entire number even if they are sitting in the parking lot of the donut shop it is getting more and more common to have to dial 11 digits inside a hospital 0-7003-123456 the zero tells the switch it is an internal call , the 7003 is the 3rd hospital in the medical group then a 6 digit extension however you often don't actually dial it you pic it out of the directory on your computer and select to dial the number and you VoIP Phone on your desk or your soft dialer application on your pc and it connects you to that persons pc or Voip phone , badge ,or wifi phone VoIP not a phone repeat after me VoIP is not a phone it is 2 way digital audio communication but a phone it is not yes I started my Career as a Phone Guy when there was analog then everything went to T1 , T3 , DS1, DS3 , PRI-ISDN and now VoIP primarily SIP because there is basically no billing for LD or Inter lada calls any more since everything is data the routing is no longer run through local exchanges eventually the whole country will be one big exchange even thought you dial things like 212 , 414, 818,919,262, 608, 715 , 603 then exchange codes like 878 , 897, 879 , 515, 525 , 214, 213 , 272 it all comes down to dial plans and with the plethora of new numbers and break from the conventional numbering phone masks for the many different dialing plans were getting near impossible to maintain by the time I am ready to retire we will probably have 14 digit numbers and international dialing will be quite common place it's already getting interesting I was working on elevator phones from a country on the other side of the world being answered in Canada the other day

I heard it was due to adding a suicide prevention number. Here in MT. I think it has the same phone number as a Dillon MT. number, so we will go to 10 digit dialing. It mentioned something about that , in the notice. I miss the old days when you could just pick up the phone, dial the Operator , and say " Hey Claira , get me Joe down at the Hardware Store". Yes , those were the days when EVERYONE knew everyone !!

Them there ones that voted for "Joe", for instance!

And then there were those Party Lines!!! I remember picking up the phone one day , at my Grand Father's house. First time I heard of a Party Line. Well, the Neighbor next door was on the phone , when picked it up. Oh Boy, that Neighbor chewed me out. Now days it's called "conferencing" :-)

And they're changing some of the southern end of 814 to a different area code. I've had to do it with my cell phone a few years ago. So it really isn't a big deal since I don't really use my landline all that much.
