My family recently acquired a forty in rusk county and a neighbor informed us that a USDA Trapper came in every year and trapped out the beavers on our land. Obviously, we would like to be the ones taking the beavers off of our land, so I am looking for information on what we would have to do/who we'd contact to keep the USDA off our land. Also, how easy/wiling are they to work with landowners.

USDA may be hired by your township, county, or Wisconsin DNR to remove nuisance animals (primarily beaver) to protect targeted habitat and/or infrastructure. I would start locally and go up the line contacting people until you find out who is doing the contracting and why with USDA for services and get the USDA area office contact person. They will be able to get you in touch with their trapper.

Most USDA trappers will temporarily yield to the local trappers as best they can and are willing to work with landowners when contacted. However, realize the USDA has a contract to protect targets for which they hired, where they are: culverts, roadways, private or public properties, or trout streams. The USDA trapper will be monitoring the situation, and step in if your current actions are insufficient to meet the contract goals. It's easier to work along side the government trapper/s than angrily confront them.

I can help with this- shoot me a PM and maybe we can discuss on the phone.
