Looks interesting trapping this farm land. I see what looks like possibilities for beaver, muskrat and maybe mink. The dryland looks like fox, coyote and coon but I would want topos and aerials as bottlenecks and pinch points here look the be measured by the section here instead of the half acre I'm used to in Georgia.

Sorry to hear about your father in law, yeah here it’s by section if you move northwest it gets pretty flat and in 1x1 mile sections, down there is some rough ground.

I'll probably never set steel in this land of corn but it does look to be an interesting thing to puzzle out. I'm thinking woodlines crossing fence rows or roads or drainage. I figure these critters put on alot of miles in this wide open landscape. But all thats just a guess on my part. Like I say it might be interesting to make a guess and see what the results might be.
What would I have to lose and these critters might even have some hair on them to boot.

Rough? I wouldn't call this rough compared to what I grew up on in Alabama. The ridge and valley west of Birmingham was rough. Narrow ridges above hundred foot deep narrow hollers all covered in mixed forests. The travel routes and pinch points there are fairly obvious. Where I am now south of Atlanta is flat by comparison with a gentle roll to the land but still forested.

Maybe I'll ride north this week to see what y'all call flat. I just find it all interesting as heck.

Oh, and I'm tickled pink at the number of yards I'm seeing proudly flying our national colors. That and the lack of sheeple muzzles being worn. Gives me hope that maybe there's still enough of us Americans left to make a difference.

Been trying to ID trees as well. Its kind of like bird watching for me. Near as I can tell from the red maples y'all are at least a month behind us in Georgia on bloom times.

That is the more tame ditches in IA. Head South to see the real coon ditches with huge cottonwoods they cannot cut because they grow deep in the ditches. Those northern IA ditches are nothing. LLL

Iowa,
You're looking to far out the window for coon locations, check out the beat down coon trails in the ditches.

Thanks, I'll do that. I take it y'all have ROW trapping? That would make sense as there's lots of "empty" land along these roads.

Iowa,
Yes we have row here. If you go past the field edge to catch coon you've walked too far. Did some ROW in Georgia several years ago working for couple counties catching bvr. I'm 100 miles north of Knoxville right up highway 14 . Could show you around next week if you'd like. I have some fur to process this week in my shed ...prob have knife that'd fit your hand 😜.

Used to be in SE Iowa was a coon trail down to mud beside every telephone pole. Straight line path was usually deer. zig zag was more coon.
