Has anyone tried using a dehydrator? Other than not using the dehydrator ever again for food, is there anything else that’s a negative for using a dehydrator?

I don't believe you would want to use any heat with drying castor. Therefor you'd just be using the airflow of the dehydrator......also known as a fan. So I'd just use a fan.
