Have any of y'all used dog proofs on rats with good success? I've had a few trapped by accident when setting for coons. I got two rat jobs coming up that are in crawl spaces. One of the ladies said that the rats were trap shy and not taking the bait. I thought if I baited these dps and put them close to their trails and burrows they'd be less trap shy because it might look like a cache. Using pb, bird seed, and fruit and nut lure for bait. Might use some saltine crackers too

If they are true rats and not mice, set with a hair trigger and corn works wonders. Switched up to cat food this year just to keep the rats out, lol.

Luke C- how old are you? and how many years of trapping experience? I'm asking because you have recently posted about trapping chipmunks with a #2 foothold and on this post you are trying to trap rats with a dp. traps are tools get the right tool for the job. yes you can a wrench as a hammer but is it the right tool

Weasel boxes with rat traps inside worked awesome for me on barn rats.
The rats traps alone work well too.

DPs were very hit and miss when I tried them on just barn rats. There are much better tools for that job.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

New one on me I'd tip them closer to the ground for easier access but then i never went to get a hammer when i had a perfectly good wrench handy
