Ive got several locations that produce 2-3 coyotes each season, nice guaranteed catch locations. Good travel ways between classic areas like heavy cover or old waterways, fencerows, pond dams, etc.
I used same bait at those for years and noticed I did way better with a single bait and good urine than any time I used any type of lure.
Ive switched baits recently and catches are still consistent at those places but I did quit buying little bottles of lure.
Now I run only dirtholes with a single bait and always put in 2-3 sets at each location. One of the sets will be a post set with just pee, the other two will be dirtholes with same bait.
.y notes show catches ratios are about same at both types of sets. I do get doubles sometimes but mostly I use more than one set because we have so many coon, possums, and skunks around here you need other sets to keep catching coyotes.
Grahams cat creek and Marty's showtime were a couple baits Wade shared with me a few years ago and I like both of those a lot. MN Hiawatha valley was my go to for many years. Also had great luck with Cletus apple road.
Its definitely helpful to have a good bait but key is make good sets in good locations with sign. I keep my bucket way more simple these days with just a single bait and bottle of pee, 2-3 sets per location, and set lots of good locations. Play the numbers like that and you will do well on coyotes. Location, location, location. Set on sign. Oh and with our crappy weather I do use LOTS of waxed dirt each season. Sets need to operate to catch anything, period. And I suppose a good dose of confidence goes a long ways too.
