Question for you guys who have a Heritage Rough Rider as a dispatch gun. I noticed that when my hammer is at the first click, or what the manual calls the “old Colt safety” position, the hammer will still fire if I squeeze the trigger maybe 5-10 pounds of force. It takes a little more force than normal firing, but definitely not excessive. The manual does say not to rely on this hammer position as a true safety, but is this normal? I’m trying to determine if there is something wrong with mine, or if this is just the way it’s supposed to be. Thanks.

Just went and got mine out of the truck to check it. It does the same thing.

How old is your RR? The newer model has better metal. The old hammers were were subject to wear.

Mine does the same thing. I use the little safety lever next to the hammer, plus keep it on the first click.

They have a hammer block on them so what’s the problem? Heck a glock will go off just pull but no one beating them up

But did you see if the rough rider will fire at click? May not be enough Plus that safety was built in so it won’t fire if dropped and hits on the hammer

Yeah, the hammer will drop but it shouldn't fire. If it does fire at 1/4 (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) you should take it back for repair.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually traded it in for a Ruger Wrangler tonight but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t setting it’s future owner up for trouble if there was something wrong with it.

I think you will like the Wrangler it has a true transfer bar

hammer back go bang , hammer forward no connection to the firing pin

my old colt clone I always carried on an empty chamber load one skip one , load 4 more hammer all the way back hammer down and it was on the empty , you know encase you needed to load it in the dark or somthing.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Yeah, that's precisely what I didn't like about the Rough Rider was the safety. Just couldn't get used to it.
