I got the idea from a Norway trapping site. I changed a few things to suit my style. I didn't add a bottom and I hinged the lid.
[Linked Image]
That's a 120 hanging inside. I call them run thru trail box's. They are 16" long, 81/2" tall inside and7" wide inside.
After making this, I believe if they were 24" long and made for a 220 they would be a good dog proof box.
[Linked Image]
Front and back view. Hole is 3" wiide and4" tall.
The box is meant to be bedded in the ground an inch or so.
How did I do?

Mink. Pa regs make it tough to set bigger conis anywhere but in the water.
And when the water freezes I can set them on the ice.

Wish I could figure a box for fox. Lol

The 110 rbg fits in a 6” culvert pipe.Yeah most people are trying to use what they have but this is pretty slick.Catches more muskrat than mink though.

For mink and muskrats a very effective 120BG trap set is a 3-4 foot culvert box. No bait or lure is used. Placed in small feeder streams it will take any rat or mink travelling the stream as it seems they cannot pass up exploring the tunnel. They also make good small stream snowmobile bridge abutments while at the same time targeting mink and rats.

Love that idea Tomcat.

Another idea similar to the OP's is a standard 14"+ box with deep spring slots and a restricted entrance cover on both ends.

That's a big box BC. I would be hard pressed to find spots on my line to put boxs in feeder creeks. I like the idea though.
I kept the hole small as to NOT catch rats. Our harvest has dropped from 800,000 in the early 80s to under 80,000 last year. Sad times for our rats.
These boxs will be on trails leading from waterways to thick areas where I know there are mink. I've been keeping notes of where I see sign when I'm out fishing.
I also live between 2 large rivers that don't get near the attention I should give them come trapping season. Think I'll change that this season, planning 2 dozen box's for each river.

I think the OP asked a good question and hopefully there are more out there so keep the pics coming. Maybe if there is enough this could archived.

It looks like you've covered it but for anyone not familiar PA rules state no body gripping traps outside a watercourse, waterway, marsh, pond or dam and also with a jaw spread not to exceed 6.5"X6.5" (a 160 would be legal but not a 220). Also a cubby entrance can not exceed 50 square inches and must be recessed 7" into the cubby. I know from what's shown that the opening is less then 50 square inches and that it looks like recessed at least 7" and being a 120 is less then 6.5"X6.5". Just asking if this is what you are going by or if I'm misreading the regulations (the 220 would give an opening greater then 50 square inches...ways around this I know, small piece of wood across opening making a step over)? Anyways what I've always gone by from my interpretation of the regulations. I planned on one for fisher and explained everything to my WCO to make sure was legal. I know different WCO's interpret things differently is why I said that.
Did you try one in the water to see how the wood shown worked? Just wondering as I made a few like that for land (1.5's in entry) and they didn't last too good.

I use something similar. Just use a killer clip and slots in the side of the tunnel. [Linked Image]

You forgot flood zone of a given waterway. Makes the area a little bigger to trap legally with my box.

I haven't tried the clips yet. Nice box.

I have used boxes for mink with success the last couple of seasons. I used to set regular open boxes for them and get quite frustrated. Now I have made my boxes very similar to bctomcats boxes with the holed entrance. I learnt very quickly that the entrance piece must be removable. If it isn't removable you'll have to bring the whole box home with a frozen mink sticking out of the whole. I seem to have better results when I put some dry grass inside the box to cover the bait. Something about the mink not seeing the bait makes them investigate. I'll also cover the whole box in snow with only the entrance visible. Just my 2 cents.

Also try to wire the bait down or use a nail to stick the bait onto, this helps with bait thieves and at times I think the mink get past the trap and only get caught when they're trying to pull the bait out.

Nice boxs Pmbna. I have a baited box with removable top and doors
[Linked Image]
I also make them to fit against a bridge or bank
[Linked Image]
These are 110 boxs. I could cut another slot and use a 120 also.
Always looking for new ideas.
Keepem coming.
