So Ive been trapping for some time now just to manage deer numbers but new to the live market coyote trapping. With NC’s trapping season in November I want to be ready. Everything I’m seeing on my research is people giving coyotes shot? What are the giving them? What kinda shots do buyers what. Also I’m building a holding pen in the back yard to hole yotes till I have a few to take to a buyer. My wife is not too happy about it. Will the coyotes make lots of noise and keep her up all night?

... just give them some feed store penicillin... and if there’s anyone worried about penned coyotes keeping folk up all night around the house ....you ain’t running as hard as me lol

I used to give 1 cc of dexamethosone if they got a little swolen in neck, if snare caught. Every coyote got 1/2cc of ivomec to hit any parasites and 1 cc of penicillin to stave off any infection. Very rarely did I hold one in pen that made any noise. However they will relentlessly work your holding facility to find any weakness to exploit and escape-I mean any.

I always left It up to the buyer to do any type of medication.

I did nothing but spray a paw with a little wound spray it it had any small abrasions.

Fed them dog food and fresh water. Took them a day or to to start eating. Never heard the make any noise.

I kept water on the penned up coyotes but never feed any of them. I was moving those coyotes every few days so In my opinion It wasn't worth feeding them.

I gave the steroid for foot swelling and penicillin. Also used blue spay and powder on any foot cuts.

In Ga, we can hold them but 5 days max. But I did provide food (dry dog food amd meat scraps) on 2nd day. Water is very, very important. Provide water immediately. If they wont drink from a pan, use a garden hose and squirt into their mouths. This is not necessary during cool/cold weather, but still provide water asap.

During winter you will have pen fighting, but the yelping and growling is short bursts.

Are you talking injury/stress management after a foot/snare catch? If you're gonna keep them a while I'd think you'd want to give them Rabies and an 8-1.

No noise but as mentioned above have a good pen, I have had a few pull a houdini lol

So I plan on building my own holding pen out of goat/ sheep wire panel but just curious if a extra large foldable black wire dog kennel/crate would work?

The foldable kennels I’ve seen wouldn’t even slow a coyote down once it got to chewing.

How can I get dexasmethasone without a script?

When we could live trap coyotes in Indiana we always shot them up with Combodic ( may not be the right spelling) for any foot damage and used Hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle to spay any wounds. Most healed up pretty quickly

What do people do with live coyotes?

The people that catch them sell them to people with large pens then have dogs chase them.

Find an old fashioned country vet and tell him what you want it for. Ask if he'll sell you a bottle. Some will, some won't.
