Thinking of adding this to the set list for our outdoor shows but there apparently are some demonic overtones surrounding the song.
A lot of musical heads on this site so what say you, any truth to it?

The Eagles have given its real meaning as a way of speaking out against corruption, greed and hedonism of the music industry in the 1970’s. The song is metaphorical. Henley even said that, they didn’t literally mean California, it’s all about being consumed by ego, absorbed by pleasure and self-righteousness.

I thought that it was just a song about addiction? What demons are we talking about?
The lobby photo inside the album cover supposedly has an image of Aleister Crowley. “Spirit here since 1969”, the Manson Murders and supposedly popularity of the santanic cult. The members seem to all have a different explanation of the songs meaning, I guess Henley should have told the rest of th em what it meant during the recording session. lol

I remember that rumor about it being satanic. More likely someone took a bad trip. It's one of those songs that can mean most anything.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I dont know if true or not but I remember reading the band was just getting together. So they all went partying out in the desert and ate some peyote. Somehow that is where the name came from. The animism religion of peyote eaters.
I do know i have never been a fan. no clue why hotel California is such a popular song. sounds like a Weird Al Yankovic number to me.

Demons --------- It is hotel CALIFORNIA --- Of course there are demons --- see what it says - that will answer your questions. good song should be appreciated by your audience. No, its art and an artists work is his own.

Demons can be a metaphor too. An addiction can be a person's demon

A lot of musical heads on this site so what say you, any truth to it? Good grief... You can find symbolism in 'American Pie' if you're looking for it. If it wasn't for Joe Walsh I wouldn't give the Eagles a second thought musically. Mike
