Can anyone explain what is needed for a Georgia out-of-state trapping license. It’s obvious that a yearly license is $300, but trying to figure out what the $2500 forfeiture bond it’s about. Is all trapping considered a commercial trapping license in Georgia?

Call this number and talk to the Special Licenses dept. they’re the best people to explain it. It’s like a security deposit. It’s a silly, silly thing. I have lived in GA all but two years of my life and moved about 15 miles over into Alabama. I still work in GA. And could trap there still, but it’s not worth the trouble to pay the stupid fee.

Could you just get bonded to cover that?

Non-resident trapping license is $330.

The bond is $2500. This must be posted with the state. Call the number in the post above for more info as to how to do this. If you use a bond company that charges 10% that would increase your cost to obtain a license to $580. $330 for license and $250 for bond. The bond is refundable after license expires...to my knowledge.

The bond law is a leftover code from the 70s fur boom era. It was put in place to penalize non-resident trappers that violated state trapping laws. The bond was forfeited and considered a deterrant to violate trapping laws. Non-resident fur buyers are required to post a $5000 bond.

These old bond laws should be repealed.

All trapping in Georgia is considered commercial. There is only one....a commercial trapping license.
