About the only thing worth getting out in the suffocating heat to do is going to catch a catfish on the river. Me and the woman went out this weekend and caught ourselves 10 nice size eater channel cats. We set jugs out and follow them down the river, I enjoy the chase and she enjoys the boat ride. Had some friends over Saturday evening and had a good old fashioned fish fry. Soaked them in salt water all day saturday, cut them into nuggets, dipped in franks red hot, breaded in zatarans seasoned breading then baptized them in the Crisco. Didn't take a picture because they were too dang good to be worried about a picture!!

Nice

my son said anywhere but the river when I asked where he wanted to go fishing ," I am tired of not catching anything" , so we went to a lake and I caught one walleye , the heat has been messing up the fishing all summer

we get home and he looks at some posts , Darn it the cats started biting again on the river last night

going to try and get out Friday and chase some cats before I have to work the weekend

why do you soak them in saltwater all day?

you can vote your way into socialism, but you will have to shoot your way out.

I've fished just about every part of the country, I was big into the bass tournament traveling thing for awhile. I always end up in the river lol. That's where I'm confident at catching

When I am feeding a bunch of people I do it because it gets any muddy fishy taste out of them. They have small blood vessels in them and the salt water busts those vessels and gets that stuff out which is what removes that muddy taste that some can have. It's really a problem with the bigger ones, but I just do it to all of them if I'm expecting people who might be a little food sensitive

we had been after cats , but the spawn was still on July 2 when we went last time , and no one was catching hardly anything , the little ones were picking up cut bait and the pole tip would dance a bit the would drag it a ways but couldn't get hook up

they wouldn't touch the worms with the smaller hooks for whatever reason.

the boat traffic was awful cruising up and down till about 22:30-23:00

I think we will be going again to the river , he was just not happy last time , a holiday weekend probably wasn't the best time to go.

Do you not cut out the mud vein that runs straight down the center of filet?

Yes I do. When I cook them I cut them into nuggets. My procedure for cutting them into nuggets is to cut them horizontal straight down the middle in that vein and then cut the chunks out of those long pieces. Whatever the salt water soak doesn't get that cut down the middle will get

no was over on the rock , there is a nice stretch with a launch where 14 crosses the river

boat traffic wouldn't be near as thick in the bottoms , but the water has been very low also

I need a launch where I can get a little depth , the boat sits high on the trailer

The boat launch we have where I like to go isn't the best either, but that's what keeps the people out so I deal with it. There's no lights, no pavement, and no guarantee you will still have your back glass in tact when you get back to the ramp. I just drive my old beater and I've never been bothered. I like not having any company up there

How's the fishing in that lake/flowage just south of Fort Atkinson?

I don't really know I have never fished it , Lake Koshkonong is fairly shallow , I have heard some good fishing , it is also a major party boat lake since rock county doesn't have much for lakes besides .

when I was in Jefferson beginning of June I was talking with a Jefferson EMT who had been out boating and ruined a prop on Koshkonong right now they report looks like water 6-9 inches above record lows his wife won't even let them go on Rock lake this year it is even shallower

I just finished this boat the end of may , I found this section of the rock with a 10 foot channel from the launch a few miles north and south for the "sea trials " there are some sand bars , and we got to see some pleasure boaters 4th of July weekend very stuck they hit it at cruising speed with 10 people on the pontoon 6 had to get off before they could push it off the submerged bar the water is so dark you can't see a foot hardly I got the impression that in previous years they cruised right over that bar.

the section has lots of snags on the west bank a few on the east it should be good for cats , I know they are there , just didn't connect yet
